No Sew Hemp Cloth Diaper Flat Tutorial!

          I have been so inspired lately to show you some of the things I have been making, mainly because they are SO easy, anyone can do them, even if you are not crafty and can not sew. Secondly because they are money savers! This one is for the cloth diaper people out there!

            My son is a pretty heavy wetter. I was resigned to the fact that my bed would forever be ruined by his diaper leaking on it every night and morning. All of my friend's kept telling me to try a hemp prefold and a wool cover. The cheapskate in me could not spend over $8 for one prefold or insert. So I opted to make my own. I ended up ordering a yard of hemp fleece from Wazoodle through Amazon for $16.99. I got a tubular piece measuring 36" x 27" which was 54" when the tube was cut open. I had every intention of sewing these up into prefolds but once it got here I started thinking.....and getting impatient to put the hemp fleece to use and stop having to wash my bedding daily! I decided to do flats instead of prefolds because hemp fleece (just like bamboo fleece) takes forever to dry. If it is a flat single layer it dries super fast as opposed to a bunch of sewn together layers. So here is my no sew, super easy way to make cheap inserts or doublers for your baby!

1. Decide what size you want to make your flat. The easiest way would be to use a prefold of flat as a guide. You could also measure the length of your diaper from front to back. Be sure to slightly stretch the diaper when you measure so your flat will fit right. I decided to make them the same size as my Dandelion prefolds ( size 3) so I could wrap them around the prefold and use as a doubler for nighttime. If you are making it to use alone in a cover I would suggest making it it bigger so when it is folded you will have more layers. I was able to cut 8 rectangle pieces that were approximately 14" x 15". My baby is currently 8 months and weighs 21 pounds.

Okay...........your done. That is it. The hemp fleece will not fray or fall apart on the cut edges so it does not need to be finished or sewn at all. If you are a perfectionist than obviously this little tutorial is not for you. You surely could serge or zig zag around the edges of your flat but it really isn't
necessary.

 Boom, just saved yourself a ton of money! I paid $19.92 shipped for the yard of hemp fleece and made 8 flats so total per flat was $2.49 each! I have been using these flats in his night time diaper and so far we have not had a single leak. I am planning on making a fleece soaker soon so be on the look out for that!

Quick Step by Step Pictorial

 

      Lately on Instagram teal and brown EOTD's are all over the place. I personally LOVE the combo of teal and brown. So much that my bedroom is done in those colors. I decided to do an EOTD inspired by all the gorgeous looks on Instagram. I changed it up and did a teal and reddish brown. Below is a quick pictorial on how I did this look. In the pics it looks as if it could be blended out a bit more on the top but in person it looked nice.

 



 

 



 
Step One
Gather your supplies. For this look I used BFTE Tickle Me which is a teal/aqua color, and then yellow, orange, red and purple eye shadows all from Sugarpill. You could cheat and use a brown and purple eye shadow instead.  Prime and add your eye shadow base. I used Too Faced Shadow Insurance and NYX Jumbo Pencil in Milk.

 
Step Two
Using an eyeshadow brush add the teal/aqua to your lid up to the crease.

 Step Three
Grab your yellow, orange and red eye shadows and using a new brush apply them in the crease and slightly above. I used Sugarpill Flamepoint, ButterCupcake and Love+. One color over the other as seen below in the pictures. You can use the same brush for all three colors because you want to mix them in the end. I used a small eye shadow brush for this application

Step Four
 Grab a fluffy blending/crease brush and your yellow eye shadow and go over the crease and blend the colors together. Use the yellow to blend out the top edge and side of the eye shadow. Be careful not to blend it into the teal/aqua area. Use as much yellow as you want. The more yellow you use the less red the color is going to look.

 Step Five
Grab your purple eyeshadow and the same blending/crease brush. I used Sugarpill Poison Plum.

Apply the purple directly to the crease to deepen the crease color.

You're Done!

Add liner and mascara if desired!!

Quick Step by Step Pictorial

Step 1.

Get a Yellow, Green and Teal/Aqua colored pigment or eye shadow.

I used Beauty From The Earth Lemon, Emerald Bliss and Blue Bayou.

 



 

Step 2.

Apply primer and if using loose pigments a base.

I used Too Faced Shadow Insurance and NYX Jumbo Pencil in Milk.

 

Step 3.

Imagine your eye divided into thirds. Pat the yellow into the

inner third using a small eye shadow brush.





 

Step 4.

Pat the green to the middle third of your eye using the same small

eye shadow brush slightly overlapping into the yellow.

 



 

Step 5.

Pat the teal/aqua to the outer third of your eye slightly over lapping the green

using the same small eye shadow brush.

 

 

Step 6.

Grab a fully blending brush.

I used MAC #222

 



 

Step 7.

Using the fluffy brush apply all of the colors again.

Starting with yellow, overlapping into the green, green and then

the teal/aqua overlapping into the green to blend the colors together.

Using the same brush or your finger soften the top edge of the makeup

to your desired liking.

 

Step 8.

Optional:

Apply liner to your lower and upper waterlines, liquid eyeliner and mascara.

Here Kitty, Kitty, Kitty - Halloween look and tutorial

 I have been having way too much fun raiding my Halloween bin of costumes and makeup! This look came out super cute. It could be a bit cleaner but overall I am happy with it! Check out how to achieve this look below.

You will need:
Foundation
Eyeshadow Primer and Base ( I used Too Faced Shadow Insurance and NYX Jumbo Pencil in Milk)
Black Eyeshadow ( I used Ben Nye Black)
Gray Eyeshadow  ( I used Ben Nye Graphite)
White Eyeshadow ( I used Sugarpill Tako)
Black Eyeliner ( I used three different kinds of liner. I used Pur Minerals Black Gel Liner, Jordana Fabuliner Black Eyeliner Pen and Lorac Kohl Eyeliner)
A variety of brushes such as fluffy blending brush, eyeshadow brush, angled liner brush, small liner brush, fluffy blush brush and a small flat brush.
Red lipstick or lip pencil (I used NYX Jumbo lip pencil)
Fake Lashes

 1.  Apply your foundation. Prime and add a base to your eye. Then using your fluffy brush apply the white eyeshadow to your inner eye. Apply it in your tear duct area and a third of the way over. Using the same brush apply the gray eyeshadow to the middle third of your eye. Then, using a piece of paper or tape, hold it to your eye and apply the black eyeshadow. Using the paper or tape will create a nice, sharp clean edge. After you have done that, using your fluffy brush, reapply the white overlapping into the gray to blend, then apply the gray slightly overlapping into the white and black to blend. Very carefully add more black to blend and get the desired color depth. After you have finished that, use your fluffy brush or your finger and blend out the top edge of the makeup. Take care not to ruin the crisp line on the outer edge.

2. Using your desired liner, line your eye making a dramatic wing on the outer edge. The bigger the better! I used my eyeliner pen to do the top liner and outer wing. Then I used my kohl eyeliner for the inner line and lower liner. To get the little point on the inner eye I used an angled liner brush to pull the liner down a little. I also used gel liner to line my tightline and fill in all the space between my lashes.

3.  Using your gray shadow and a blush or face brush contour your face. Then apply the gray to your cheekbones, down the bridge of your nose and to your forehead. Blend out the gray heavily. Next apply white eyeshadow in a circular shape just under your nose. You will want to make sure you use a quality white eyeshadow. Apply the shadow in layers until it is opaque. Then using black liner ( i used my gel liner and an angled liner brush) apply to the lower part of your nose. Then trace the liner down to your lip and line the top edge of your top lip. Carefully follow the edge of your lips out and line the lower edge of the circular shape making a cat "smile". Fill your lips in with the liner.

4.  Using the gray eyeshadow and a small eyeliner brush ,line the white circular shape. Apply this very lightly!! Then using your eyeliner ( I used my eyeliner pen) draw 3 small dots in the middle of the white circular areas.  Then draw your whiskers on. You can draw them as big or small as you like. I ALWAYS mess up when I do whiskers and never get them straight so I opted for tiny whiskers. Next apply red lipstick or liner to your bottom lip only. Lastly fill in your brows using a black pencil and add lashes!

Fall look Tutorial

 For this look you will need-
Primer ( I used Too Faced Shadow Insurance)
Base ( I used NYX Jumbo Pencil in Milk)
Yellow/Orange  Pigment/Shadow ( I used BFTE Kou)
Red Pigment/Shadow ( I used BFTE Red Hot)
Taupe Shadow ( I used BFTE Wizard's Wand)

 Step 1 - Apply your eyeshadow primer and base.

 Step 2 - Apply the Kou ( yellow/orange) to the inner half of your eyelid.

 Step 3 - Apply Red Hot ( Red) to the outer half of your lid.

 Step 4 - Apply Wizard's Wand ( taupe) to your crease and pull the color up a little bit.

 Step 4-  Repeat steps 1-3 using a fluffy blending blush making sure all colors are blended into each other.

Step 5 - Using your blending brush or finger ( I used my finger) go over the top edge of Wizard's Wand ( taupe) until the harsh line is blended out.

Here is the finished look. I added some black liner ( Jordana Fabuliner) and mascara to finish the look!

"Fairy Eyes" Tutorial featuring Beauty From The Earth

       I posted this look last week on my Facebook page and the owner of Beauty From The Earth quickly reposted it to the BFTE fan page ( I am so flattered!!!). On both pages the look got quite a few comments and requests for a tutorial. My looks are always spur of the moment. Rarely are they planned out so I tried to recreate this the best I could! I also took all the pictures using flash so you could really see wear to apply the colors so sorry it is a bit harsh. Hope you enjoy!

Here is what you will need to recreate this look.

• Fluffy Blending Brush ( I use MAC #222)
• Eyeshadow Brush  ( I use elf eyeshadow brush)
• Eye primer ( I use Too Faced Shadow Insurance)
•  Eyeshadow Base ( I use NYX Jumbo Pencil in Milk)
• Concealer ( I normally use elf concealer stick)
• Purple Pigment - Kastra by Beauty From The Earths Pro Color Line
• Pink Pigment - Zaniah by Beauty From The Earths Pro Color Line
• Teal Pigment - Meissa by Beauty From The Earths Pro Color Line
• Hot Pink Pigment - Lava Momma by Beauty From The Earth
• Neutral skin toned pigment or shadow - Skimp by Urban Decay
• Mascara ( I used Full N Soft by Maybelline
• Liquid Eyeliner ( I use Jordana Fabuliner)

1. Apply concealer just below the eyebrow onto the brow bone Apply your eye primer from lid to brow and  blend the concealer in. Then apply your base as shown in the picture. Lightly blend out the edges of the base shape using your ring finger.

2.  Take your eyeshadow brush and get a generous amount of Kastra. Our goal is to really pack the color on so it opaque. Pat, DO NOT RUB, Kastra into the inner eye area and about a third of the way across your lid taking care not to apply above the crease.

 3. Take the same brush and get a generous amount of Zaniah. Using the same brush with the previous color residue on it helps with the blending. Pat it on the middle third of your eye overlapping into Kastra. Take care not to apply above the crease.

 Here is what your eye should look like now.

4. Take the same brush and apply a generous amount Meissa to the outer third of your eye and bring it over slightly into the crease. Remember, PAT do not rub. Do not overlap Meissa on Zaniah.

5. Now grab your fluffy brush. Dip lightly into Kastra and tap ALL excess pigment off the brush. Using quick back and forth motions very light apply Kastra to the inner eye over where you originally applied it in step 1. Slightly overlap into Zaniah. Also blend out the top edge and bring it up slightly as shown in the picture below. Do this until you are happy with the blend between the two colors. 

6. Using the same fluffy brush, dip lightly into Zaniah and tap ALL excess pigment off the brush. Using quick back and forth motions very light apply Zaniah to the middle of the eyelid over where you originally applied it in step 2. Slightly overlap into Zaniah back into Kastra blending towards the inner eye. Also blend outwards into Meissa.  Do this until you are happy with the blend between the two colors. 

Here is what your eye should look like now.

7.  Take the same fluffy brush and dip into Meissa. Tap off ALL excess pigment. Starting at the outside edge blend Meissa inward towards Zaniah blending the line between the two colors. Lightly blend the outer edge and top edge of Meissa and brig the color up into the crease and inward all the way through the crease to your inner eye. Keep doing this until you are happy with the blend.

I was not particularly happy with my inner eye so I added more Kastra with the fluffy

brush and blended it in. If you are happy with your look then skip this step.

 8. Take your fluffy brush and Lava Momma ( I have the pressed version, loose works just as well). Get a small amount on the end of your brush and apply to the top edge of the shadow. Blend by lightly moving your brush back and forth across the entire top edge of the look, from the outer to the inner. Keep blending until you have a nice purplish/pink hue on the top edge.

Here is what your eye should look like at this point.

9. Now take your fluffy brush and using a tissue or cloth brush off all the pigment that has built up. Next using your neutral shade apply it all over the brow bone and LIGHTLY over the top edge of the shadow and around the outer edge as well. This helps really soften and blend the look.

10. Apply your liquid or whatever liner you prefer and add mascara.

and you are done!

As you can see it isn't an exact match for the original look but it is pretty good!
