NuNAAT Brazilian Keratin

Please note that the products below were sent to me free of charge for promotional purposes

I had the opportunity to try out some NuNAAT products last month. I was able to choose which line of products I wanted to try and seeing that my hair is processed quite a bit and damaged I decided to try the Brazilian Keratin line. I received the shampoo, conditioner, hair mask and leave in treatment. I have been using this line exclusively for the last month. Check out my opinions below! Here is some info from the NuNAATwebsite:

NAAT Brazilian Keratin collection restores and intensifies your hair's nutritional balance, leaving it incredibly smooth, strong and flexible. Unlike typical animal-based keratins, our exclusive Green Keratin formula stays in your hair longer and is more resistant to rinsing. Promotes vibrancy and hydration, giving hair a natural, healthy shine.
  • Works with all hair types
  • Repairs cuticle damage
  • Regenerates and strengthens hair fibers
  • Restores natural shine and softness
  • Seals hair cuticles
  • Reduces volume and frizz
  • Makes hair resilient and healthy
  • Formaldehyde and sodium chloride free

  • The nuNAAT Brazilian Keratin line includes:
NAAT Brazilian Keratin Daily Care Shampoo-Formulated with mild surfactants, Green Keratin and amino acids, all of which provide deep cleansing without being abrasive. Designed for daily use. Sodium chloride free
NAAT Brazilian Keratin Daily Care Conditioner
Contains high-capacity conditioning ingredients so hair is easily untangled. Our exclusive formula contains Green Keratin and amino acids.Reduces frizz and tames unruly hair. Designed for daily use.
NAAT Brazilian Keratin Intensive Hair Mask
Apply after hair has been shampooed and rinsed in place of normal conditioner. The mask will intensely hydrate and repair hair fibers. Leave in for 10-20 minutes, then rinse well. To make hair even smoother, Deep Moisturizing Conditioner can be added to ends of hair after Intensive Hair Mask has been rinsed out. Use every one or two weeks, as necessary.
NAAT Brazilian Keratin Liquid Keratin Leave-In Reconstructor
A non-rinse formula. Once a desired amount is applied to hair, leave in for a few minutes before blow-drying as usual. A flat iron seals hair cuticles, causing the keratin to effectively penetrate hair fibers. Designed for frequent use, or as needed.
NAAT Brazilian Keratin Serum Ultra Shine ( I did not receive this product or test it)
Our special silicone formula creates a film that protects hair against environmental  damage, keeping it moisturized and providing extra conditioning, more shine and increased flexibility. This styling product can be used on wet or dry hair. Apply a small amount and distribute evenly. Use as often as desired.

After using this line for a month I can say I really like it. At the beginning I was on the fence. I had pretty long hair, half way down my back that had been bleached numerous times and not trimmed for over a year. Using this line on THAT hair I did not see a huge difference. But then I got about 8 inches cut off and now am noticing a huge difference in my hair. The hair I have left is shoulder length and has also been bleached multiple times so it definitely needed some help. Using the nuNAAT shampoo and conditioners have been a transition for me. I am used to drug store brands that sud up to a huge pile of bubbles and conditioners that make your hair feel super smooth when rinsing. With store brand conditioner I have found my hair to be tacky and weighed down sometimes which requires the use of a clarifying shampoo from time to time. The nuNAAT Brazilian Keratin line is way different. The shampoo has only minimal suds but cleans very efficiently. Suds are not an indicator of how well shampoo works. The conditioner left my hair feeling stronger if that makes any sense. It did not feel like I just conditioned it at all. That turned me off a bit because I am used to the feeling of really soft, easy to brush hair. The leave in treatment also made my hair feel stronger. After a month of using this I can say that my hair definitely is smoother and stronger. I wish I could articulate into words how my hair feels after using this. Strong is the only word that comes to mind. nuNAAT is available at a variety of retailers, including Walgreens, Walmart and Sally Beauty Supplies. The nuNAAT Brazilian Keratin line is extremely affordable, comparable in price to Pantene. I wash my hair 2 times a week and still have around half of the shampoo and conditioner, the hair mask is 3/4 full and the leave in treatment is almost full still. Overall I am very pleased with this line. My hair looks great and it is a very affordable brand. I will continue to use this line and I plan on exploring some of the other lines nuNAAT offers.

Suave Moroccan Infusion Shampoo and Conditioner

What is it? Shampoo and Conditioner formulated for color treated and dull hair that is infused with Moroccan Argan Oil.

How much is it? The price varies. I have seen it as low as $2.50 and all the way up to $4.99. I personally paid only $2.00 after coupons for each one.

Where to buy it?  Target, Wal-Mart, Drug Stores etc.

What is it supposed to do?  Give color treated or dull hair vibrant color, noticeable shine, long lasting conditioning while smoothing and sealing the hair cuticles to keep color vibrant.

What does it ACTUALLY do? This system DID give my hair a really nice vibrancy and shine. My hair looked and felt softer and less frizzy than it does when using my normal shampoo and conditioner. My normal shampoo and conditioner are for color treated hair but my hair noticeably fades with each wash. I felt like Suave Moroccan Infusion left my hair less faded than my normal shampoo and conditioner.

Overall thoughts? This stuff rocks! It makes my fried, bleached, damaged hair feel like healthy, soft luxurious hair. With all of the chemical processing my hair has decided to become curly in some spots, wavy in others and the rest straight which leaves me with a frizzy mess if I do not flat iron, curl or blow dry my hair. When I use the Suave Moroccan Infusion I can let my hair air dry and it is not frizzy at all. It also works great for my color. I have less fading when using it. The best part about this shampoo and conditioner is the price. At under $4 it is a STEAL!!

Have you tried Suave Moroccan Infusion shampoo and conditioner? If so, what did you think?

    Works on all hair colors.
Most shades perfect for hair and brows.

How much is it? $12.50 for each color ( This product was sent to me for blogging purposes)

Handy dandy instructions on how to apply to hair and brows
Where to buy it? http://www.anastasia.net . You can also go here to find local retailers.

What is it supposed to do? Give intense hues on hair and brows without bleaching.
What does it really do?  This product definitely lives up to it's claims. The  powders were bold and covered nicely when used on my brows. The powder covered my dark brown roots fully and also gave great coverage on my daughters naturally red hair.

    Teal Tornado

    In The Pink
(in the pink is not for use around the eye, I am a rebel)

    Electric Blue

    Megawatt Green

    Ultra Violet

Ultra Violet, Electric Blue and In The Pink in my daughters hair
Overall thoughts? My overall thoughts are that this product is amazing. I am in LOVE with it. I have never found anything except the Violet Klean Color eyeliner that works well on my brows. These powders all worked nicely. I do think that Megawatt Green and In The Pink are a bit light and would look better on someone with lighter colored brows. I think if you started with a white eyeliner pencil on your brows and then did the powder over they would work on dark brows though. I use the powders over some clear brow gel. I also tried the teal with no gel and it was opaque and looked good. It looked more soft and natural when used without gel.
As for hair powder this product blew me away. I never expected it to work. I tried hair chalking before and figured this would be similar. Not even close. Lately the roots of my hair are not holding the color as well as the rest of my hair. What happens is the teal/purple fades off and leaves me with light brown roots around my face. It looks awful. I was dying the roots once a week which is a pain in the butt. I added the Teal Tornado powder to my hair and it covered the roots AWESOME!! I just spritzed my hair with a little water and then brushed the powder on with a big blush brush. Afterward I added a light spray of hairspray. The powder stayed all day and was still on 24 hours later. I tried the powders on my daughters hair. Her hair is naturally red. I would have figured the colors would be muted because of her hair color but they were very vibrant. She also slept and the color was still vibrant the next morning. One thing I do not love is the shape of the containers. To apply the hair powder you press the whole container against your hair and a slide it down. If the product was a flatter square it would make it easier to apply. All the powders washed out of brows and hair very easily.
I think this product is ingenious, the quality is great and the pricing is average. I will definitely be using the teal and purple on my hair in between touch ups. The teal has also became my new brow color!

    Battle of the Purples!

A few months ago I embarked on a quest to have the most fabulous purple hair. So far I have not had a ton of luck. My natural hair color is medium brown but I normally dye it black. I have heard it almost impossible to bleach it to a light color when you have black dye on your hair.. To start, I spent over 8 hours at the salon and ended up with a tiny purple streak in my bangs, so I decided to take matters into my own hands and bleach a portion of my hair myself. I ended up with the roots very light and the ends reddish brown. I added some purple over that and it is did produce an interesting ombre effect that random people seemed to love. I got quite a few compliments on it. Then my roots start growing out and I decided to bleach again. I bleached over all the previously bleached hair and did a bigger section of hair. It came out quite light and I was happy because I thought the purple would really be vibrant. I added the purple and within a week I was left with dingy gray hair. My hair was FRIED and would not hold color. It felt like muck. SO GROSS. I went in and had over 7 inches cut off and it feels so much better. I also have done numerous deep conditioning treatments and finally my hair is holding color again. Below is my hair journey and opinions on a few different purple dyes!

(stock photos from SallyBeauty.com and Pravana.com)

(stock photos from SallyBeauty.com and Pravana.com)

My first at home bleaching experience. I used Clairol Born Blonde Maxi bleach kit. It costs between $8-$12 depending on where you buy it. I like this kit better than buying the bleach and developer at Sally Beauty because it is easier and you apply it in a bottle just like you would normal hair dye. As you can see the results are UGLY. I was horrified when I seen how light the roots were and how dark everything else was. I was hoping putting some purple over it would look okay.

I put an entire jar of Manic Panic Ultra Violet ($13 at Sally Beauty) all over my whole head and this was the results. I was pleasantly surprised and thought it looked okay. People around town seemed to really like it though. I got quite a few compliments on it. The Manic Panic Ultra Violet is the priciest of the all dyes I used but I prefer the color over all the others. It is such a pretty bluish/purple. Plus I love the cream formula.

The Manic Panic faded and it was time to redye and of course I was broke. I went to Sally Beauty and seen the ION Color Brilliance Brights for only $4.99. I figured it was worth a shot but expected it to suck. The color is much more of a true purple with no violet tones in it. I thought it was pretty but I do prefer my purple more intense. The formula is also a cream but really thick. The thickness came in quite handy when redoing my hair line and roots.

My friend Stephanie was going to the beauty supply to pick some Pravana up for herself and offered to get me a tube of the Violet. I paid under $4 for a BIG tube. The Pravava is also a thick cream formula which I like. I thought the purple was gorgeous and vivid. The only thing I did not like was it stains everything. My straightener was purple, my hands, my pillow, my shower and when a piece of stray hair falls out if it gets wet it leaves a hair stain wherever it lands. ANNOYING!!!

My roots were about a half inch at this point and the grays were starting to show through so I decided to do another round of bleach. Once again I used the Clairol Born Blonde Maxi and below are the results. Like I said above I was JAZZED!! It came out so light and I thought the purple would look absolutely magical over it. Boy, was I wrong!

I used Manic Panic Ultra Violet again. It did apply patchy and look off to me but it was vivid so I was happy. I washed my hair once after applying Ultra Violet and it all washed out to an ugly gray purple color.  I applied Ultra Violet again and the same thing happened. My hair felt AWFUL. It was so dry and even when I did deep conditioning treatments it felt like muck. It was bad. It would not hold color , the ends were so frizzy and it would not hold a curl at all.

I ended up going to the salon and having over 7 inches cut off. I went to Sally and bought some Beyond The Zone Color Jams in Purple Passion, heat protective serum, texture putty stuff ( that is the technical name for it...lol) , a deep conditioner, and some gel for my boy's mowhawks. The hair color was $5.99 and came in an applicator bottle but the bottle is quite thick and hard to squeeze with one hand so I emptied mine into a bowl and applied with a brush. The formula seems to be a cream/gel. It is much more of a true purple than even the ION was. I actually find it to be a bit dull and too dark but it does blend well with the rest of my hair. One thing that I dislike is the smell of ALL Beyond The Zone products. They do not small bad, but do not smell good either. They just smell weird. Blech.

I am done with the bleaching. I will keep touching up the purple for a few months and then I think I am going to go a bright red. I think it will blend my roots and bleached pieces nicely. Overall in my purple journey I liked Pravana best. It was the most cost effective and one tube lasted forever. The purple was really pretty and it faded less than the other purples. I also mixed some of it with my condition and I was able to go almost a month in full head dying. I do like Manic Panic Ultra Violet best as far as color but I found it to be the quickest to fade and it was the most expensive. The Ion and Beyond The Zone were both my least favorite. The Ion was cheap but the tube was also small. Both lack the vibrancy that I love in a purple.

Do you have a favorite hair dye? A better recommendation for a purple? Let me know!!

    Tangle Teezer

This strange beetle looking brush has saved my sanity and my daughters hair!
I have Courtnery from Glamourpuss to thank!!
She did a very thorough blog post about this awesome product.
I found mine at Sally Beauty Supply. I paid $10 and it has seriously cut down the time
it takes to brush my daughters hair from 20 minutes to less than 5 minutes!
My daughter is 10 and has waist length THICK hair that she loves and will not
let me cut. I normally have to brush it for her after she takes a shower and it is NOT FUN.
This brush has changed that all. I do wish it had a handle though, I end up dropping it a few times
    during each brushing session.

Here is some information from the Tangle Teezer website:
Your hair is powerful: when nurtured it gives you self-confidence and triples your sex appeal. Beautiful and healthy hair is usually the first thing people notice about you, but abuse it with harsh brushing and your hair pays the price.
The damage trying to tear tangles and knots out of your hair with an unsuitable brush cannot be underestimated. Vigorous brushing will ‘rough’ up and damage the hair’s cuticle wrecking your hair’s chances of looking healthy and shiny. The cuticle or the outermost layer of the hair is a hard layer of over-lapping protective scale like cells (think of them as tiles on a roof) and are the front line when it comes to protecting your hair’s internal structure from damage which is imperative for bouncy, sexy and touchable hair. As well as brushing, cuticle sabotage can be caused by over-use of heated appliances, chemicals and hair accessories such as clips leading to split ends and a lack lustre and frizzy appearance.
Understanding we would be in hair limbo without styling tools and fabulous colour, Tangle Teezer reduces the risk of damaging the cuticle, making all the difference between fatigued and fabulous looking hair. Look after your cuticle and it will protect your hair.
Tangle Teezer is the first of a new generation of detangling hairbrushes! Upon picking up Tangle Teezer you will notice the teeth aren’t like that of an ordinary brush which is where the hair genius comes in. The unique configuration of specifically designed teeth flex just the right amount to detangle and help smooth the hair’s cuticle which in turn protects the inner cortex from damage.
Using the Tangle Teezer will ensure your hair will appear more lustrous by minimising cuticle damage which in turn will help colour last and reduce the risk of fading. The hair shaft is also better prepared for the onslaught of damaging heat from styling tools. That’s why we like to call it first aid for hair.

If you have long hair or a daughter with long hair you
NEED this brush. I am serious!!!
