August Birchbox!

I got my August Birchbox finally! I am just barely getting back into the swing of things with blogging so my posts may not be the best. I have been so busy for over the last year with the new baby and everything else that blogging fell to the wayside. I realize that when I lost my domain that all my links for most of my previous posts are broken now. I do not have the time to go back through and fix them all so I apologize for that!. I do instagram A LOT so you can always follow me there - Confessionsofaglitterholic .

I renewed my subscription to Birchbox because honestly I just like getting things in the mail! I also like that they include a lot of different skin care products. I am comfortable but not well off enough to spend a ton of money trying out different skin care products so this way I can sample and see what I like and works for me. Years ago I got a sample of Porefessional from Benefit in my Birchbox and it quickly became my favorite product and I use it everyday! Here is a link to Birchbox if you would like to sign up. This is my referral link so I will get points if you sign up using it!

I am not going to review each product as detailed as I used to on this post because I am blogging as fast as I can before my toddler wakes up!

The dry shampoo hair is nice. I am washing my hair a lot less because my green is washing out quicker since I did a bleach bath on my hair a few months back. I found the whole "Death Valley" thing a bit weird and felt like it didn't really have anything to do with the product but overall I liked it.

I really do not feel like I can give a real opinion on this shampoo because one use is not enough to  say if it does what it claims to do. It made my hair feel nice though.

I love all dr.brandt products so I was super happy to get this sample. I love it. I have used it all.

I have not tried this lotion out yet so I do not have an opinion =)

I HATED this product. I hate the feeling of sunscreen in general but thought that since this was for your face and pores that it would be nice but it was thick, heavy, greasy and gross. I literally had to scrub it off my hands after applying to my face.

The Balm is THE BOMB! I love everything they make so I was very happy to get this tiny sample of bronzer. It is beautiful and I am going to buy the full size as soon as I finish the sample!

April Birchbox

I got my Birchbox nice and early again this month. Woot! This months theme was bringing things back down to earth with fresh products that take inspiration from the world around us. Truthfully the sounds of that made me think this box was going to suck. But I was pleasantly surprised even though once again it is primarily skin care. WE NEED SOME MAKEUP BIRCHBOX!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If you are unfamiliar with Birchbox you can get a lot of information from my first post about them here. Basically it is a subscription. You pay $10 and every month you get a box with 4-6 deluxe samples or full size beauty products. It is fun!!
Packaging was gorgeous as usual. I have re purposed by Birchbox boxes but am running out of ideas! What do you do with yours? So far I have used them to organize my hair accessory drawer and to wrap gifts.
I received Be Fine Cleanser and Moisturizer, Microderma Mitt, Zoya Polish, Wei face treatment and Taylor Swift perfume. After last months box which was full of suck this all was a welcome surprise.

$59 for 3.4 fl oz.
Wonderstruck is that awe-inspiring feeling that comes from experiencing something magical. Eclectic and traditional with whimsical flair, every element of the brand is authentically Taylor.
Inspiration for Wonderstruck came from Taylor’s favorite memories and scents. The fragrance is a gourmand floral; a charming and sparkling surprise of vibrant fruits, kissed by a bouquet of soft petals and a touch of sweet indulgence.
I personally love these little perfume samples and thought this particular scent was nice. I would buy it in full size with my Birchbox points or if I found it on sale. I am pretty cheap when it comes to perfumes. I have a little container filled with sample vials that I have been using for over a year now. Ohhh I could use an empty Birchbox box to hold them!!

$8 for .5 fl
Each Zoya shade goes on opaque with just one coat and lasts 50 percent longer than traditional polishes. And you’ll be glad to hear that the vegan-friendly formulas don’t contain formaldehyde, tuolene, camphor, and other toxic chemicals.
I was happy to see a name brand polish in this box. I like the color I received, Bevin. I personally did not find the claim "lasts 50% longer than other polishes" to be true. It lasted as long as most other polishes. I like this and would buy Zoya brand polish again.

$28.50 for 1 mitt
It doesn’t take a splurgy med-spa treatment to really renew your skin. As the name suggests, MicrodermaMitt’s exfoliating face mitt gives you results that are comparable to clinical microdermabrasion, minus the redness and sensitivity that can result. It purges your pores of pent-up gunk and whisks away dead skin cells—you won’t even need a separate cleanser or scrub. With regular use, your skin will look visibly smoother, and your lines, scars, and sun spots will be less noticeable.
Made of all-natural floss silk, MicrodermaMitt’s soft yet powerful face mitt sloughs away all forms of debris, from makeup and sunscreen residue to excess oil and dead skin cells. Plus, its buffing action boosts skin’s natural collagen production, leading to healthier, firmer skin over time.
I am a die hard Clarisonic user but this mitt intrigued me. I think it did a really nice job at making my skin feel clean and exfoliated. I would have to stop using my Clarisonic and only use this to find out if the claims that is reduces the appearance of fine lines and other skin issues is true and I am not willing to do that. However I did put this in my husbands shower so he can be the guinea pig! At $28 for one mitt it is a bit much and I would not purchase this product.

$68 for 6 face treatments
Sheet masks are all in the rage in the Asian skincare world, and once you try them you’ll be equally hooked. Not only are they super-hygienic and easy to use, they let you achieve comparable results to pricey spa facials for a fraction of the cost. WEI™, the undisputed authority on Chinese herbal beauty, created this collection of single-serving face sheet masks. Each assorted 6-pack comes with three targeted varieties: Gingko Leaf Repairing Pads to brighten skin, Black Soy Instant Lifting Pads to firm and lift, and White Lotus Hydrating Pads to restore lost moisture.
All six sheet masks in this power pack are infused with healing Eastern botanicals and other actives. The Gingko Leaf pads reduce redness and shrink pores, while the White Lotus pads soften the look of lines and wrinkles. Both contain a smart dose of hyaluronic acid to plump up skin (the slight tingly sensation means they’re really working). The most targeted of the bunch, the Black Soy pads are soaked in a unique amino acid solution formulated with fermented black soy to immediately tighten dull, sagging skin. No matter which mask you’re using, experience tells us that you can expect to notice a real difference in the mirror after just one session.
Products like these are why I love these sampling box programs. This is so neat! I liked trying this and I thought it made my face look and feel more hydrated. I would not spend $68 for only 6 treatments though. That is way out of my price range. I like that with these boxes I get to try products I normally never would think to try or be able to afford. Fun!!

$25 for 4 fl oz
 25 for 1.7 fl oz
Finding an exfoliator that’s effective without irritating your face is a bit like trying to find a needle in a haystack (and a scratchy haystack at that). This two-in-one product has gentle beads that first slough away dead skin cells and then melt into a creamy cleanser. It’s ideal for anyone who has sensitive skin or who simply wants to exfoliate every day. Natural brown sugar beads slough away dead skin. Because they dissolve as you scrub, there’s no danger of overdoing it. At the same time, sweet almond oil, oat protein, and ginger root extract work to soothe and hydrate skin.
Between hitting the snooze button and deliberating over our wardrobe options, our mornings always seem to turn into a fire drill. But no matter how rushed we are, we always find time to load up on this feather-light hydrator, which works for all skin types. Made with vegetable proteins and essential oils, the paraben-free formula also includes SPF 15 to protect skin from the UV rays that lead to premature aging. On top of that, we can also use it as a protective hand cream.
I was shocked at how many Be Fine samples were inside this box! 2 face cleanser and 3 moisturizer. I really like both of them and feel like they are good values. I probably would purchase these if I did not already have a ton of skin care items. The wash made my face feel very clean and soft and the moisturizer absorbed easily without being greasy.

March Birchbox

Sorry this breakdown is so late. Two reasons why, one is that I have been extremely busy with orders from my shop and second this Birchbox SUCKED hard. I am actually PISSED. I guess this month some people had an option of choosing a Teen Vogue box. I did not get that option. The Teen Vogue box was AMAZING. It has a full size Tarte LipSurgence and Essie Nail polish. The regular Birchbox that I got seemed to be geared towards old ladies. Thanks a lot Birchbox.

This is the Teen Vogue Box

This is the old lady box
If you are unfamiliar with Birchbox you can get a lot of information from my first post about them here. Basically it is a subscription. You pay $10 and every month you get a box with 4-6 deluxe samples or full size beauty products. It is fun!!

Lulu Organics®

Lavender + Clary Sage Hair Powder

4oz for $30

Lulu Organics®’s organic hair powder is the hip younger sister of mainstream dry shampoos: she’s eco-conscious, health-savvy, and has vague plans of packing her bags and moving to Portland. Analogies aside, this winning natural formula revives second day locks by absorbing volume-zapping oil. It has a lovely lavender scent laced with the faintest trace of herbal clary sage. And since it leaves no chalky white residue behind, even dark-haired girls can use it.

I did not really like this. The smell is nice but I love lavender and sage while I know a lot of others do not. I am not a big fan of dry shampoo or hair powder. I feel like my hair feels heavier and more dirty after using them. I have a bottle of dry shampoo that I  paid $10 for. I thought that was a lot. I would not pay $30 for this product.

Color Club Classic Nail Polish

0.5 fl oz for $8.00

Nope, not a fan of this either. It is a pretty pink polish but I own like 5 similar colors. Color Club is no Essie. I can't understand how Birchbox did not realize that some people would be mad over receiving this instead of an Essie like the Teen Vogue box. They should have both been Essie.

Supergoop!® Sunscreen Swipes™

 40 Wipes for $30

If there’s one skincare motto you should commit to memory, it’s this: never, ever skip the sunscreen. Shielding your skin from harmful UV rays is hands down the best way to prevent fine lines and brown spots, yet slathering yourself in lotion isn’t exactly a pleasant task. That’s why we adore these easy breezy SPF 30 swipes. Created by a veteran of the sun protection industry, they’re soaked with a skin-safe formula that provides broad-spectrum, water-resistant protection. Plus, an infusion of green tea soothes even the most sensitive-skin.

I actually like this product a lot. It is super convenient and easy to use. I hate the feeling of sunscreen on my hands so this makes applying much nicer. I thought I would buy this product until I noticed the price. $30 for 40 wipes. Are you serious. That is so expensive in my opinion.

Apothederm™ Stretch Mark Cream

5.7 oz for $89.95

We’ve gone through our fair share of growing pains (like our regrettable Goth phase back in high school). Yet somehow we managed to escape unscathed—with one major exception. Nowadays, the only signs of our long-gone past lie in our unsightly stretch marks. Enter this sophisticated vanishing cream, which visibly fades the marks on our legs, hips, and stomach that we once regarded as permanent fixtures.
The lush cream tones and reduces the look of both ancient and recent stretch marks alike. Four natural moisturizers—olive oil, shea butter, cocoa butter, and meadowfoam seed oils—leave skin wondrously soft. Meanwhile, the unique SmartPeptide™ system increases collagen production, while licorice root and antioxidant-rich resveratrol fade discoloration. A dose of hyaluronic acid helps with long-lasting hydration

Ahhhhhhh, another old lady product. I am an old lady with stretch marks and this does not even appeal to me. I have not tried it yet but plan too. I will report back!

NIA24® Skin Strengthening Complex

50 ml for $85

Most moisturizers work to soften and smooth our skin, but this one-of-a-kind cream does all that and more. It’s clinically designed to reverse sun damage and strengthen our skin’s natural defense barrier. Developed by a leading biomedical firm, the fast-absorbing formula is made with a patented form of niacin (aka Vitamin B) to penetrate into the deepest layers of skin, speeding up the cellular repair process. A host of skin benefits will result, from fading the appearance of brown spots to reducing the look of fine lines and wrinkles. Best of all, your skin will be more resilient against future UV damage—just in time for the next swimsuit season.
this skin-fortifying moisturizer contains a 5% concentration of Pro-Niacin™, a unique ingredient that undoes the effects of sun exposure and leads to noticeably brighter, firmer, and stronger skin. Other actives include protein-rich ceramides, moisturizing evening primrose and wheat germ oils, and peptides to erase crow’s feet and frown lines

More skin care. Month after month it has been boxes filled with skin care. I do like trying these products out but I would really like to see more cosmetics in the boxes! I liked this product. It was nice but once again, not nice enough to spend $85 on.

Tea Forté® skin-smart™ Teas

 16 bags for $6

Teatime just got a makeover. Not only do these fruity green teas taste amazing, they contain mega-high levels of antioxidants to repair your skin from the inside out. Each flavor addresses a specific concern, from fighting oxidative stress (a major source of wrinkles) to restoring skin’s youthful glow. Certified organic and fair trade, the beautifying blends will help you look as great as you feel—and who can say no to that?
Tea Forté’s® intelligent green tea blends boost the health of your skin by clearing toxins out of your system, which helps ward off the signs of aging. Lychee Coconut is a fruity white tea blend designed to help your body ward off harmful free radicals. Honey Yuzu is designed to help your skin renew itself and increase elastin levels with yuzu, a revered Asian citrus fruit known for its high concentration of vitamin C. Cucumber Mint is laced with the subtle sweetness of blueberries and encourages your skin to firm up by boosting collagen production. The nuttiest of the bunch, Cherry Marzipan features the toasted goodness of almonds, plus antioxidant-rich acerola cherries, to reverse the look of fine lines and wrinkles. What’s more, our favorite celebrity nutritionist Dr. Oz calls it “dessert in a mug.”

Okay this tea just sent me over the edge. The box may as well of contained a bottle of Geritol, support hose and some denture cream. UGHHHHHH. I brewed a cup of Cherry Marzipan tea and it pretty much tasted like water. Not a fan of this product at all.

What did you think of this months box? Did you get the teen or the senior ( lol) box? I hated this months box with a passion. I know some people would cancel over this box but I like getting boxes of samples each month. It is fun and for $10 it is a steal. I have a nice little arsenal of skin care products that will last me for a couple months so that is a win. I know that these products appeal to a lot of people and that Birchbox can't tailor boxes to each person but I just really wish we would see more cosmetics!!

February Birchbox

My February Birchbox arrived nice and early again this month! I got my box on the 11th this time.
If are not familiar with Birchbox you can read through my first Birchbox post here or jump to the end of this post for more information. The Birchbox website never updated to show me what was in my box so it was a total surprise. FUN!! I was especially excited because there were some awesome products this month such as a whitening mouthwash  and a beauty blender sponge. Well I got neither. This is the worst box I have gotten from Birchbox in the 6 months I have been subscribed. It is way too much skin care stuff and I really do not love the idea of the eyeliner sticker thing. Even though these items are not my favorite I still feel like this box is worth the $10 price tag.

The box arrived in perfect condition with everything packed to perfection as usual!!
The card was for some music group and the heart is a nail file.

 $38 for 1.7 fl
The oil-free formula feels positively weightless on but gives you plenty of even coverage. Skin looks soft and dewy and, thanks to SPF 20, you’ll be extra protected from the sun.The formula has light-diffusing minerals, which give skin a soft glow and also smooth over any fine lines. Antioxidants like ginseng and gingko biloba leaf extract help improve skin, and SPF 20 wards off UVA and UVB rays.

There has been a Jouer product almost every month in the box, it almost makes you wonder if Birchbox owns Jouer!!! Overall I like the brand but I do not love it nor do I feel like it is worth the higher price tag the brand touts. This was an average tinted moisturizer. I liked it but would not buy it because I feel like their are many cheaper options that are the same quality.

$29 for 2 fl oz
This organic formula is a vast improvement over your run-of-the-mill drugstore acne products, which can irritate your skin with drying benzyl peroxide, petroleum glycols, artificial dyes, and fragrances. The key ingredient is a natural dose of salicylic acid, derived from willow bark, which purifies pores and shrinks even the fiercest pimples. Other actives include brightening Vitamin C, CoQ10 and organic fruit acids. To top it off, aloe, which soothes irritation; detoxifying dandelion leaf, lemon balm leaf, and sage leaf extracts are also in this serum.
I am at the greasy face point in my cycle and I have to say this stuff seemed to make it worse. It is a gel product and it did not really melt into my skin at all. I felt like I had a film on my face all day after applying it. My face felt moist and sticky most of the day so I suppose you can say it hydrates well. I would not buy this product in full size.

 $50 for 2.6 oz

When you mix the fine powder with water, it turns into a creamy paste that polishes skin’s surface with a mix of chemical and physical exfoliators. The rice bran base is rich in phytic acid, famed for its brightening and softening properties. Other actives include papaya enzyme, salicylic acid, and finely ground colloidal oatmeal, all proven to smooth skin and remove debris.

I was most excited to try this out. I mixed it with a little water and it was too thick so I added enough to make it pasty but that seemed to dillute it too much and it was just a soft paste with no exfolliant. I was not really impressed. Especially with the high price tag. I feel like a random scrub from Target or a homemade one would be easier and work just as well.

$13 for 2 sets
The stick-on adhesives are super easy to apply and help you create an array of eye-catching looks. Unlike traditional liners, they won’t smudge or fade.

Yeah... I took one look at this and laughed. It is comical really. I guess it could be useful for someone who is not good at applying liquid liner but then again, if you can't apply liquid liner you may not be able to be precise and apply this either. It is just plain strange. I had a very hard time getting the inner corners to stick down and stay down. They kept popping up so I left it. I also had to apply this with my eye wide open and my lashes kept getting in the way. It was plain awkward. I disliked the feeling these had. They were more pliable then an actual sticker but they still felt heavy on my eye. I felt like my eye skin movement was restricted. I would definitely NOT buy these. They are odd.......

January Birchbox

I got my January Birchbox! It came in the mail on the 13th which was a bit earlier than I expected. If are not familiar with Birchbox you can read through my first Birchbox post here or jump to the end of this post for more information. I know a lot of ladies have been unhappy with the items Birchbox has been including in the boxes but once again I am very pleased with my box. For $10 I feel like I have gotten some great products to try out.

Birchbox has really nice sturdy clean packaging. This month was no exception. I really like their attention to detail!
The theme of this months box is "Clarity" Here is some information taken from the Birchbox website.
Happy New Year! January sets the tone for the rest of the year, which is why we’re focusing on bringing clarity to every aspect of our lives — from our minds to our beauty regimen. Accordingly, we’ve included products that will help you start 2012 with a fresh face and optimistic mood.

For starters, overhaul your complexion with a smart moisturizer that uses glycolic acid to revitalize dull skin. Keep your limbs equally healthy with a silky soap loaded with antioxidants. Now that you have the basics down, revamp your eye makeup with a pop of color: stila’s velvety liner does the trick. You’ll also find a lovely scent to update your fragrance wardrobe and a tasty snack to help you ward off vending machine cravings.

We’ve also included a list of our favorite mind, body, and soul detoxes, plus a Birchbox magnet so that you can fasten reminders to your fridge. Online, you’ll find in-depth info about your products, as well as a video tutorial of a rosy winter makeup look, tips to avoiding skin freakouts, and much more.

Here’s to a phenomenal year,
Katia, Hayley & the Birchbox Team

$12.50 for a 6.9 oz bar.
That drugstore bar soap isn’t doing your skin any favors. Trade up to Archipelago’s triple-milled formula, which pairs a pure vegetable oil base with rich mango seed and shea butters. White tea and cranberry extracts provide an antioxidant boost but the star is pomegranate, a power ingredient that has benefits for both skin and psyche. This fragrant soap is packed with botanicals, including pomegranate extract. The ingredient has plenty of claims to fame, including its ability to repair cell damage and encourage collagen production. In addition, the formula has Phase II Enzyme boosters, which help to detoxify skin and neutralize free radicals.

Well, ummmm, it is a $12.50 bar of soap. That is it. It smells good and does its job but it seems nothing more than a bar of soap . At $12.50 it is extremely overpriced in my opinion. I see no difference in this soap compared to a bar of soap you would get in a cheapy bath set. Definitely not buying a full size but I will use it for sure. I mean, who doesn't need soap!!!

 $115 for 1.7 fl oz
What’s a girl to do when she’s battling dullness, fine lines, and dry skin? Overhaul her complexion with an uber-effective moisturizer, of course. Clark’s Botanicals’ runaway best seller transforms lifeless skin with a potent blend of exfoliating natural acids and energizing algae extracts. It’s no surprise it’s a cult favorite. All Clark’s Botanicals’ skincare products use Jasmine Absolute to rebalance troubled skin. Culled from nocturnally blooming jasmine flowers, the precious oil has anti-inflammatory and immuno-boosting properties. In addition, this moisturizer features a gentle dose of glycolic acid to slough away dead cells, plus marine algae extracts to soften skin.

I have used this twice and like it so far. It is very moisturizing which I need right now. In California we are having a very mild warm winter and it has been windy so my face is SO dry. The price for this cream seems a bit high. Okay well a lot high. I use Ponds Rejuveness cream sometimes and this reminded me of that except the Ponds is less than $10. I would not buy this in full size unless it turned out to be some sort of miracle cream.

 $20.00 per eyeliner
The quickest way to update your eye makeup? Swap your black eyeliner for a rich colored one. stila’s Smudge Stick liners are gorgeously wearable and come in four rich shades that make eyes pop. There’s Purple Tang, a blackish aubergine; Moray, a golden olive; Peacock, a shimmery azure; Blue Ribbon, a deep cerulean; and Lionfish, a chestnut brown. Better yet, the liners are waterproof and stay vibrant all day.Maximum pigment and minimum fuss. Each smooth, creamy liner goes on easily and won’t migrate all over your eyes. We love how the twist-up pencil allows for precise applications, no sharpeners required.

Okay I like and dislike this. How is that for confusing. I feel like the $20.00 price tag is a big high for a Stila product and I dislike the color names because they do not match what the color actually is but I really like the product and the way it performs. I swatched

Birchbox Magnet
This was an extra in the box. Some people were annoyed by it. It did not bother me at all. I just stuck it on my fridge. I can always use another magnet.

$14.95 for I assume is a multipack??
Whenever we get a craving for something sweet, we turn to these all-natural snack bars. Not only do they taste yummy, they’re also good for you. Made without preservatives and fillers, they come in fun flavors like Blueberry Muffin, Carrot Cake, Peanut Butter Cookie, and (our favorite) Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough. Each bar has nine ingredients max, and you’ll love the wholesome blends of dried fruits, nuts, and spices. There are no icky additives like high fructose corn syrup, and they’re vegan-friendly too.
I have had Lara Bars before and liked them. They are an acquired taste in my opinion as are any of the natural type bars like these. This however was tart as heck!!! Yikes!! I couldn't eat more than a couple of bites. It tasted just like cherry pie filling.  My son sure loved it. I would buy full size Lara Bars but not in this flavor.

$89.00 for 3.4 oz
Life is too short to wear boring fragrance. This youthful blend of fruity and floral notes is designed to make you feel fabulous, even if the most exciting thing on your calendar is laundry. Accordingly, the glamorous glass bottle comes bedecked with playful charms. One spritz and you’re ready for anything.Top notes of watermelon, passion fruit, and mandarin combine with bright whiffs of marigold and green apple. Rose, vanilla, and yummy caramel undertones anchor the scent.
LOVE this scent!! The perfume samples are one of my favorite parts about Birchbox. I love trying out new ones without having to commit to a large expensive bottle. I think at $89.00 this is actually an affordable perfume. I plan on buying it from Birchbox as soon as I get a few more points.

So that was my January box! Overall I liked it. There was some products I loved but all of them I will get some use from. Do you subscribe to Birchbox? If so what did you think of this months box? If you are not a subscriber read below for more information.
