Lime Crime China Doll Palette

I picked up the China Doll  palette by Lime Crime at IMATS for only $20! So cheap! I also got Aquataenia but that is for another day. I am literally beating myself up for not getting the other two Lime Crime palettes at IMATS. The discount was so good. *Sobs* Okay I am done being miserable!

This is my first experience with Lime Crime eye shadows  You may recall my makeup sensei Lisa guest posted swatches and a review of these palettes last year. I have wanted to try these palettes FOREVER but never seemed to order one when I had funds. My first thoughts are the packaging is adorable and super sturdy. The palette itself is set inside a plastic insert and then is attached inside of an adorable tin. The plastic seems a tiny bit cheesy but the tin makes up for it.
These shadows were WAY better than I expected they would be. People seem to like them but I have not heard to many people go crazy for them. I am not sure why because they are pretty awesome. They all have a smooth texture and are super opaque even without a base as you can see. I really like the tone of red that Fly, Dragon Fly is and Goldfish is a totally unique color in my stash. It has the softest texture. It is a really cool mix of mustard yellow and gold. LOVE IT. Obviously I also love Jade-O-lade very much as well. It is a really nice shade of jade, lol. It is also a more unique shade in my stash. Parasol is also a very soft textured shadow and VERY opaque. This palette is full of win in my opinion.
My overall thoughts of Lime Crime shadows are very positive. I loved the texture, opaqueness and how they blended together in a look. At $20 I feel like I got a steal. They are regularly $34.99 which is much higher than I paid but still a fair amount in my opinion. I do plan on ordering the other two palettes eventually. Right now I can't spend too much since I blew the wad at IMATS

Have you tried the China Doll palette from Lime Crime? If so what did you think?

Lime Crime Velvetines

I am going to break up my Lime Crime haul from IMATS into a few parts. First up are the new Velvetines. I had seen a lot of promo pics of these and thought they looked nice but it wasn't until I seen the actual product on a friends lips that I was sold. I got both colors, Suedeberry and Red Velvet. I picked up Red Velvet at IMATS and Suedeberry later on. They retail for $16.99 and you can purchase them here . They are currently sold out and sell out pretty quickly when they are stocked so grab them when you can!

The color is described as a strawberry red. It seemed to pull more orange on my skin tone than berry but regardless, I love it.

The actual product is called a gloss but personally I would not use that term only because it dries down to be the complete opposite of a gloss. This stuff is really cool. It applies liquid and creamy and dries to be totally matte and smudge proof.

Lime Crime Red Velvet Velvetine
If you have tried OCC Lip Tars or NYX matte lip creams than you are familiar with the way they dry into a matte formula. I prefer the Velvetines, I am not the biggest fan of how runny and hard to apply OCC Lip Tars are and I completely hate the taste of the NYX matte lip creams. The Velvetines are a thicker formula that is easily applied with the doe foot applicator. They have no scent or flavor which is also a plus.

I wore Red Velvet all day last Sunday. We went to brunch at a Mexican food restaurant. I can say that my lips looked just as good after countless bites of food, napkin wipes and drinks of champagne as they did when I first applied. There was no noticeable fading. I was pretty shocked.

After wearing Red Velvet all day my lips did feel quite dry. I normally apply lip balm throughout the day. This product is definitely not hydrating to the lips at all. I will note that it was windy that day and I drank a decent amount of champagne which also contributed to the dry lips.

Overall I have to say that I am in LOVE with this product. I rarely wear red lips mainly because I do not feel like I have found the right red but I feel like both of these shades are flattering on me. I also dislike wearing dark lips because of how they look as they wear off, the smearing and how it sometimes gets on your teeth. I didn't have to worry about any of those things with the Velvetines. I hope that Lime Crime comes out with more colors soon!! I am hooked!!

Have you tried the new Velvetines? If so, what did you think?

EDIT:  One of my friends who got Red Velvet told me hers wore all day long without reapplying. Woot! She also said hers smelled like a Vanilla Cupcake. My nose doesn't work too awesome because I can not really smell anything when I smell mine. I had a smell test with my kids and half could smell something, half could not. They all thought it smelled like chapstick so the jury it out. I just wanted to edit in case someone wanted a truly unscented product.

MAC Lipstick samples from The Body Needs

I love MAC lipsticks but never seem to be able to afford to buy all the ones I want. Someone ( I think it was Kas) mentioned to me that they bought MAC lipstick samples and linked me to The Body Needs. I was intrigued by the amount of sample colors they stocked and really liked how they were packaged. They melt down the lipsticks and repot them into slimline lip balm tubes. The cost was also nice, $3.79 each and they always have sales. I used a 25% coupon code when I ordered. I got 8 tubes ( I ordered a duplicate of Craving and a Grey Friday for my niece) With tax and shipping my total was $28.69
I ordered on 12/28. After 10 days I emailed and asked when my order was going to ship because on the website they say orders ship within 3 -7 days. I got an email back saying they were closed for the holidays from 12/22 - 1/2 and that this was posted on their website. I must have missed that which would not be abnormal for me LOL. A label was finally generated for my order on 1/8. I started checking my mailbox daily starting on 1/11. I paid $5.95 for shipping so I imagined the package would be shipped priority mail. Finally my package arrived on the 16th. It was a very small bubble mailer which was shipped first class. Inside the lipsticks were just in a ziplock bag ( first photo). I personally find $5.95 to ship 8 slimline lipsticks in a bubble mailer to be WAY too much.

Each slimline tube is filled with .5 grams of lipstick and the base of the tube is filled with a clear lipstick base to prevent waste of the sample in the bottom of the tube. I really liked the labeling and packaging.

I bet you can figure out which is my favorite? You got it, Peach Blossom. I ordered a random array of tones in colors I would not normally wear. I am trying to break out of my nude lip rut. Man, is it hard. I feel so awkward in lip color.

Overall my experience with The Body Needs was frustrating and fabulous at the same time. I can understand the delay in shipping due to being closed and I suppose the extra time frame when my label was printed to when it was shipped should be expected since they were probably quite behind on orders from being closed. But still, waiting 20 days for an order is a bit long. That and the shipping prices leave a bad taste in my mouth which sucks because I love the way they package the samples and how many colors they offer. They also offer MAC pigment samples and other various MAC products. I will most likely order again when they do a 40% off sale and spend over $50 to get the free shipping option.

Have you tried The Body Needs? If so how was your experience? What about MAC lipsticks? Any colors you can recommend for me to try out that would look good with my coloring?

Beauty From The Earth IMATS haul!

I picked up a few things from my favorite "Indie" seller Beauty From The Earth. I visited the BFTE booth numerous times throughout the day at IMATS, to say hi and rest for a few minutes. I have met the owner Crystal a couple of times now and was super excited to see her and pick up some new pigments. Right away my eyes were drawn to the bright colors. Of course as soon as I read what color they were I realized I already had them lol. Then I seen a gorgeous pink and picked it up, when Crystal seen, she said to me, " You already have that one at home". She knows my collection better than me! Gotta love that!! So I ended up picking up a gorgeous neutral collection as well as the new colors that were unveiled at IMATS.

The Coffee Shop collection comes with 5 gorgeous colors. Each named after a type of drink. Reading these names makes me thirsty. This collection retails for $30 and is available here.

Here are the color descriptions taken from the product listing:
Mocchiato - shimmering light golden brown
Chai - red-toned shimmering milk chocolate
Espresso - pure dark chocolate with a glimmer of rainbow borealis
Caffe Latte - matte peach-tinged beige
Salted Caramel - peach-tinged tan with a golden sheen and golden twinkles

First off when swatching these pigments I was AMAZED at how opaque they swatched. Also the pigment itself adhered to the skin nicely with out a base. Salted Caramel is fabulous color. I love it!! I love all of these colors and can't wait to do some neutral looks with it.

Next up is a super fun color called Poodle Pandemonium. Phyrra and Crystal collaborated to make this super fun color that is named after Phyrra's love for poodles. How cute! Poodle Pandemonium is the color of the week at BFTE right now! That means for $6 you get a full size jar and 3 samples jars.

Emerald Bliss is also a new color and it will be released soon.
It is a gorgeous green with teal shimmer.

I also picked up Tickle Me which is a bit greener than the it looks in the pictures. Tickle Me is available on
the BFTE website for $6 for a full size or $2 for a sample size

Lotus is the pink color that I have had for awhile. I swatched it during the summer but it did not have a name yet. I do not see Lotus on the website yet but will be available shortly.

I am super happy with my BFTE purchase. If you have not tried BFTE than you need too! I highly suggest buying a bunch of samples. Samples are only $2 and come in a jar. They are super affordable and a great way to build up a stash or to try a bunch of new colors!
